Increasing Community Cohesion Through Awareness and Communications Skills Development:
A Case Study

This paper presents a case study of the effectiveness of training delivered to a newly formed group. The goal of the training was to increase community cohesion, and, in the language adopted by the group, to create beloved community. This training implementation and case study is related to a larger research effort on "Civilizational Development" that examines values and behaviors within a culture, and their impact on the community (Jones, 2017a; Jones, 2017b). Following the 2016 political election season, the group was organized around the intersection of three concerns: personal experiences with addiction and recovery, a climate of sociopolitical polarization, and marginalization of certain individuals and groups. The composition of the group represented a mix of interests in these areas, with a desire for an additional overlay of a spiritual dimension to the group.
