Hard at work, soft at play. Soft at work hard at play?
Work hard, play harder? that seems a bit passe.
Soft is hard when it comes to the work place.
Weak is hard and brittle. A clear chain of command in place, a hard structure yet we do so much more when we are playing. Try writing a list of all of the things you accomplish on your days off and then write a list of all that you accomplish during a work week.
where I am going with this; when you are using your own internal motivator and desire to accomplish your tasks; time flies and more is achieved. How to tap into this internal motivator, we all know, put the person you love most in front of you, that motivates. There are other motivators one of the greatest of them is space.
Space, where do we find space with a deadline ahead and a boss or client expecting results? by being soft. Take a vacation, just for a moment, imagine what it is about the work you are doing that you enjoy, and enjoy. When you realize non of it, you would prefer to be with friends right now, that is when you look at your tasks and ask yourself who would have the skills and would be motivated to do this with you? Go get them, take a moment, take the space you need, when you return you will have given a person a task they enjoy and you will be working with a new found friend. Communication and trust can hold the soft structure in balance.
With communication and trust almost non existent a hard internal structure is needed or the whole project falls apart, this hard structure works, but it is no vacation.
Time off is very structured and hard wired, but soft. The internal motivator has all of these wonderful plans and very little time to execute them, not only execute them but to enjoy them. By taking the space one needs to listen and make choices that motivate work and play they can flow, be resilient and productive.
Play hard, work soft.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
