Design your life, its yours
" You inspire me" I say, I hear and I look for the inspiration, and then I see it, right there sitting on the window sill waiting to be picked up and played with.
Designing inspiration into ones life, what a concept? Should we not design and then be inspired? "Be inspired" I hear the phrase, as if it was a light switch that can be turned on and off from outside, but it’s not.
Our person is the window to the world, the window through which we see our lives, yet we look out as if we can plan tomorrow, while inspiration sits on the window sill looking at us and at our plan for tomorrow and laughs. Sometimes it cries and even yells at us. I have seen my inspiration jump up and down and stomp its feet trying to get my attention. My inspiration is saying " What about me?"
As you plan your life, are you inspired by what’s to come? Are you inspired by what you are living? Have you met a person with twinkly eyes?
Designing your life, we are all designers of our lives - some have simply forgotten to bring their inspiration along during the process.
Somehow there is this preconceived idea that inspiration and success are not linked, designing one’s life is done one step at a time, and sacrifices must be made for the future of the design.
What if? Today you ask your inspiration what it needs instead of asking your life which problems need solving. Today pick your inspiration up off the window sill and talk too it, ask it, how it would live its life if it was you? Ask it, which parts of today it would keep and what it needs to develop? Ask it if it is lonely and what you can do to spark it?
Then design your life based on its answers.
Going to Hawaii might be fun, quitting your job and teaching windsurfing in the Maldives might seem inspiring but those are actually only distractions and exit plans. True inspiration is right here in your life waiting to be noticed, whether it’s moving your desk next to the window or taking a walk at lunch time. Design your life so that every day your inspired self can grow. One day your life will burst out of you, and you will be the person with the twinkly eyes smiling through your window at the world you have created and live in.
Your designed life is waiting for you - simply follow your road map and you will succeed.
